Was assigned to Camp Happiness from 62 to close out in 65. Worked with some great guys. Charlie Smoot, Al Turner, Capt Arthur, Jim Bumpurs, Dick Beal, Maj VanSaun, Hansen, and a few others. We launched a lot of birds, trained a lot of crews, and drank a lot of beers. Funny thing is, I'm still working out at KSC almost 50 years later.

I was in camp happiness for a month when they transfered me from the Mace B class to the MACE A class. There was several months between the classes.
Never could keep good chocolate milk there.

I helped guide two Matdors launched at the Cape. We lived in a warehouse at Camp Happiness for several days. In addition to the Matador launches, we watched an Atlas launch... and drank a lot of beer. My crew was then assigned to Taiwan (then "Formosa" with the 868th TMS at Tainan AB. We also worked several months at the Matador guidance site at Makung City, Penghu Island, located in the Pescadores Islands. The Taiwan tour lasted from January, 1959 through March of 1960. I had a five-year tour of duty as an electroncs classroom instructor after the missile stint.

I was an alternate on a Matador launch
11/9/60. I returned to Orlando and was told the Matador program was being cancelled and my crew was one of the last to ship out and they would try to find a place for me. Well my place for (seemed like months)the next interval in my life was "CAMP HAPPINESS". I eventually wound up at Site IV Hahn.

Went to Lackland in 02/1962; on to Lowry and Orlando. I was on Launch Crew #7, Site 2 (873rd) at Kadena from '63 to '65 and back to Orlando. Lots of great memories including those beautiful sunsets at Camp Happiness sitting on the dock fishing at days end.

I came to Orlando AFB from Lowry AFB in November of 1959 and was assigned to Camp Happiness for KP and general housekeeping duty until my class started. Our crew was in countdown on the cape during the mace underground launch that took down the power. We were assigned to the 868th on Tainan AB, Taiwan from October of '60 to October of '61

I was assigned as a student to the 4504th in June of 1961 for training as a guidance mechanic on an MRC crew for the TM76A Mace and subsequently went to Sembach Germany. I volunteered for KP for a week or two at Camp Happiness before training started. Great time! Got to see several launches during that time... you have brought back many memories!!!

I was assigned to Orlando for training as a Control System Mechanic on the TM61-C Matador. Did a week or 2 KP at Camp Happiness before my training started. After training, off to Osan Korea to serve a year on a launch team.
